Survey Vessels

MV Fin-Power. A 13-metre converted west-coast troller, this vessel includes all positioning electronics and integrated data-logging capabilities for bathymetric and physical oceanographic surveys (ADCP Transect work). The hydraulic winch system contains 500 metres of stainless hydrographic wire and the vessel has on-deck sample processing infrastructure. The layout includes accommodation for four, as well as cooking facilities. It is an ideal survey vessel for longer-term survey programs.

MV Lobo. A custom-built 7-metre aluminium vessel equipped with twin 115-hp Yamaha engines, hydraulic winch system, 110-volt power, sounding, positioning electronics and radar systems. The vessel is designed for bottom sampling and ROV deployments and video-image capture. It can be moved by trailer, and is ideal for day-trips.

Underwater Photographic Surveys

Aquametrix retains two Remote Operated Vehicles (ROVs), a Video-Ray Pro and a Seamor. These units allow high-resolution photographic surveys to be completed to depths of 300+ metres, and include digital image capture that is used post-survey to create a narrated DVD end product. You will need Microsoft Windows Media Player to view the samples. You can get a free copy here.

Oceanographic Equipment

Our water column profiling (data-logging) instrumentation includes a SBE-19 CTD, a variety of acoustic and vane/rotor fixed position current meters (AquaDopp, SDE-6000), and RDI Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs; 300 khz). Our inventory also comprises a variety of ancillary remote sampling devices such as bottom grabs, plankton nets, etc. These resources are easily mobilized and are available to any project, worldwide.

Laboratory Facility

Our laboratory facility is fully equipped for all biological and basic physical-chemical analyses, with optical equipment including phase contrast and bright field inverted microscopes for phytoplankton work, compound scopes for high-magnification identifications, and a variety of binocular stereomicroscopes for sample sorting and photographic work.
